Prospective Postdoctoral Scholars

I am actively hiring postdoctoral scholars: https://postdocs.stanford.edu/prospective/opportunities/open-postdoctoral-position-faculty-mentor-sherri-rose.

Current Stanford MS and PhD students

I have open projects for PhD students who have prior research experience in either (1) statistical learning or algorithmic fairness or (2) microsimulation modeling. Please feel free to email me.

Stanford Dissertation Committees

Feel free to contact me regarding joining your dissertation committee or serving as the external defense examiner. Please include a one-page summary of your research and note the members already on your committee so I can assess whether my expertise will be beneficial to you. If helpful to know as you are constituting your committee to meet Stanford’s requirements, I am a member of Academic Council.

Undergraduate and Community College Students

I typically mentor 2 college students each summer through our Advancing Health Equity and Diversity (AHEaD) summer research program, where I am a Co-Director. The application is posted in the Fall with decisions made by March. Many frequently asked questions are answered on the AHEaD website. Questions not answered there should be sent to stanfordahead@stanford.edu.

I am not able to mentor college students at outside institutions other than through the AHEaD program at this time.

High School Students

I am not able to mentor high school students at this time.

Prospective Stanford PhD Applicants

Out of fairness to all potential applicants, I do not meet with prospective PhD students prior to the interview round of our admissions processes at Stanford. I am also not able to provide any assessment of your likelihood of being admitted. There is substantial information online about the PhD programs where I advise students. This includes PhD programs in Computer Science, Biomedical Data Science, and Health Policy (with a Health Policy FAQ page here). Admission to these PhD programs is by committee and students are not admitted directly into faculty labs, so applicants do not need to meet with individual faculty prior to application.

Visiting Graduate Students & Graduate Students not at Stanford

Given my advising responsibilities at Stanford and the practical considerations involved (e.g., data access restrictions), I am not able to host visiting graduate students at Stanford or serve as a research advisor for students at other universities at this time.
